Buy Nothing Project (BNP)

A global, gift-based movement encouraging community connections through sharing. Members give, receive, and exchange items or services for free, fostering sustainability, reducing waste, and building local relationships without monetary transactions.

Keep It Green Recycling

Helps divert reusable materials from landfills. Originally supporting Metro Vancouver’s film industry, it now accepts donations from homes and businesses, redistributing items like costumes, props, and set materials to filmmakers, schools, artists, and charities—for free—saving costs and reducing waste.

Habitat for Humanity ReStores

Habitat for Humanity builds affordable homes for low-income families. It funds its projects through ReStores, which sell donated furniture, appliances, and building materials. There are Habitat for Humanity stores in many towns across Canada, including Burnaby, Abbotsford, Langley, Chilliwack in the BC lower mainland

Maple Ridge New and Used

Large operation with a wide range of used (and new) building materials. Inventory includes doors, windows, cabinetry, lighting, and hardware. 

Our Social Fabric (OSF)

Rescues fabric scraps and surplus materials, offering them for sale at low prices. By reducing textile waste, it supports sustainable practices in fashion, crafting, and community projects. Donations of fabric and supplies are accepted, helping to provide affordable resources to artists, crafters, and makers.

Salvage Vancouver

Salvages hardwoods, old growth cedar and fir, and exotic species from old buildings and barns. Restores and sells the reclaimed lumber, which is mostly in demand for furniture making, flooring and interior design work

The Rebuild Hub

Online platform for sourcing new household furnishings donated to Habitat for Humanity charitable organization by other retailers. Items are end of season or last year’s models. 

UrbanJacks

Collects used dimensional lumber from partner organizations and businesses, repurposing it into 1×2, 1×3, 1×4, and 2×6-inch pieces. Through a reciprocal agreement, they accept used lumber from film industry partners, galleries, and museums that, in turn, purchase their upcycled lumber.

Urban RePurpose

A non-profit organization that collects used household items, furniture, lighting, and select building materials such as lumber and windows from properties slated for demolition or renovation. UR accepts material donations and sells them at low prices.

Urban Source

Accepts donations of used materials for art supplies, crafting, props, sewing, knitting, framing, signage, costumes, and productions. These materials are then sold at affordable prices.

Other Stores

There are also numerous antique and second hand furniture and homeware shops as well as second hand and vintage stores to source props and costumes across Metro Vancouver. Several prop rental businesses also exist to service the bustling film industry in this region.
